main while sunday’s 2-1 loss to West Ham extended Spurs’ dismal run to five defeats in their last six games, and it also confirmed that Mourinho’s start to life with the club is the worst he has ever endured during his managerial career.

His come back of 81 points from his first 50 games with Spurs is 14 lower than his former worst – 95 with Manchester United – and it has led to rumours that Mourinho could soon be heading the sack if he fails to reverse things around, but the boss came out fighting.

“No, not at all. Not at all. Zero,” Mourinho said (via Sky Sports News) when asked whether Spurs’ struggles have made him doubt his methods. “Sometimes results are a consequence of multiple situations in football. Mine, and my coaching staff’s methods, are second to nobody in the world.

“I don’t know what you mean by crisis. If crisis is frustration and sadness in the dressing room, I would say so, because nobody is happy, we all showed that in this game.Jose Mourinho holding a sign: Spurs are well behind in the race for the top four | Pool/Getty Images

“When a team fights the way we did until the last second trying to get a different result, it is never a group in crisis. Groups are in crisis when you are not together in the search for better results than you have.

“So I wouldn’t say crisis, I would say a really bad run of results. That is obvious. We are losing too many matches.”

As noted by BBC Sport, Mourinho also added: “I think for a long, long time, we have problems in the team that I cannot resolve by myself as a coach.”

The result leaves Spurs wailing down in ninth in the Premier League, nine points adrift of fourth-placed West Ham, but Mourinho rejected to rule his side out of Champions League qualification just yet.a person with a football ball: Spurs were second best against West Ham | Chloe Knott - Danehouse/Getty Images© Chloe Knott – Danehouse/Getty Images Spurs were second best against West Ham | Chloe Knott – Danehouse/Getty Images

“It is still mathematically possible,” he added. “When it is mathematically possible it is realistic, yes it’s very hard, but mathematically it’s possible.

“Of course, our team has problems and the problems are reflected in results and with points. But I also believe a little bit of that luck needed in football to win matches has to be back, and if that comes back things will be different.

“I believe if this team wins a couple of games in a row, the situation can change, and we can fight for top four. Nine points now is difficult, but in football it is possible.”
